The Grand Army of the Republic was the largest veteran organization from the Civil War. Membership was open to all soldiers who fought for the side of the Union. By 1888 there were 382 posts in MO and by 1893 over 500 located in nearly every part of the state. It is hoped that this listing will be the beginning of a website on the GAR in MO which could include information such as locations of GAR records, membership lists, and post histories which will need the help of the GAR's descendent groups, the SUVCW and the DUVCW, as well as from libraries who have GAR holdings and county genealogical and historical societies who may have some knowledge on the posts in their area. We hope that this will add to the education of the Civil War in MO. For feedback please contact us at momollus@mail.usmo.com or write THE MISSOURI COMMANDERY OF MOLLUS, 302 W. Springfield Ave., Union, MO 63084.
